Nestled across 83 acres of high desert at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains, the new Tahquitz High School was phased in over four years and incorporates the best features of several area schools.
Barnhart Balfour Beatty provided construction management multi prime services to build the $110-million, 238,145 SF school campus for the Hemet Unified School District. Barnhart Balfour Beatty acted as construction manager for 47 prime trade contractors, with architectural services provided by Trittipo Architecture & Planning.
The expansive campus serves 2,400 students and was funded by Measures E and T general obligation bonds, approved by voters in 2002 and 2006. With five classroom buildings, students have access to state-of-the-art science and art labs, music rooms, a 500-seat performing arts center, a gymnasium with three basketball courts and a 1,200-seat capacity. There are also baseball and softball fields, an Olympic-size pool, special education classrooms, an administrative center, auto shop, tennis courts and a 4,000-seat football and track stadium built at the foot of the mountains.
