Lease-Leaseback

Since February 2008, Barnhart Balfour Beatty has been providing preconstruction and construction services to the Santee School District to modernize facilities and build new classrooms for the district’s nine schools. Barnhart Balfour Beatty will deliver the $129 million program utilizing the Lease-Leaseback project delivery system.

School projects already completed include more than $23 million in modernizations across three K-8 campuses, and the addition of three new junior high buildings valued at more than $16 million for Rio Seco, Carlton Hills and Carlton Oaks elementary schools. All  welcomed new K-8 students in the fall of 2009.  The three newly built 10-classroom buildings will be used by Junior High School students. Upgrades benefiting students, faculty and staff include new learning resource centers, libraries, technology centers, science labs, art rooms, restrooms, offices, and an enhanced utility infrastructure.               

Classroom features include a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system with individual room controls that will make each classroom more comfortable while saving energy.  Classrooms also have built-in teaching walls with integrated cabinets and sliding marker boards, tackable wall surfaces, and state-of-the-art data wiring for computer and communications systems.
Outdoor areas received new landscaping, sidewalks and lighting while being made more accessible to the physically disabled.  The schools had not received any major modifications since being built in the 1960s.

Barnhart Balfour Beatty also completed a $10-million, 18-classroom addition to Santee’s Cajon Park School that houses 450 students in grades 5 through 8. The existing campus received  $6.7 million in modernization covering K-4 classrooms, offices, library/technology center, kitchen and bathrooms.
