Safety

As the winner of numerous safety awards Barnhart, Inc. enjoys a well-earned reputation for safety and is an industry leader in this area. Barnhart’s Safety Department is lead by Sr. Vice President of Loss Control, Michael Pennington, who holds several Safety Certifications and is a Federal OSHA Certified Instructor.

In 2008, Barnhart was awarded the highly coveted 2008 Grand Award for Safety Excellence from the Associated General Contractors, which is awarded to the company with the best safety program nationally and recognizes companies who have developed and implemented excellent safety and loss prevention programs achieved through management commitment, employee training and program innovation.

The cornerstone of Barnhart’s safety program is our ZERO HARM initiative which is centered on our corporate-wide commitment to achieving Zero worker fatalities, ZERO disabling injuries and ZERO injuries to the members of the public due to our activities.  Unlike traditional programs that focus on training superintendents and construction employees and emphasize improvement in on-the-job accident rates, Zero Harm has four goals to be achieved by 2012:

1) Zero fatalities
2) Zero major injuries
3) Zero Harm to the public
4) Zero Harm to the environment.

Six Pillars ZERO HARM: We will achieve our goals following these six pillars:

Leading.  Every person with leadership responsibilities commits to Zero Harm and inspires the people on their team to make safety their personal priority.

Involving. Everyone who works for the company takes safety personally and contributes to Zero Harm in all that they do.

Simplifying.  We make sure our systems and processes help people think and act safely and do not get in the way.

Re-Thinking. We look at everything we do with fresh eyes, challenge the status quo, and re-engineer our activities to eliminate risks.

Learning.  We seek out and share what works well, adapt these procedures for our own environment and implement them.

Tracking.  We identify where we can improve, take measures to close the gap and document when we have achieved success.

Barnhart is committed to making it everyone’s business to be responsible for allowing us all to come home from work safely every day, so we can enjoy our families and friends for years to come.
